Nachi koba daimonji-so is a treasured wild ancestor native to the Kii Peninsula.   With small leaves and compact height, it produces charming white flowers in autumn.

Tradition has it that the second half of the common name for this plant in Japanese, daimonji derives from the shape of its petals, which resemble the Chinese character “” (meaning “large”).

- Tips for growing

As this plant prefers sun, plant it in a spot where it will receive plenty of sunlight.

Prepare a well-drained, rich soil that is ideal for the plant.

Keep the soil moist by watering daily, as the plant dislikes dryness.

Remove dead flowers after flowering to maintain plant health.

Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring and autumn to help the plant grow.

The plant is one of the finest autumn wildflowers and its compactness makes it a perfect choice for shade gardens and for potting alone or with other plants.
