  • For planting in the garden (ground planting)
  • Remove stones if they are mixed in, mix in a good amount of compost at a rate of about 30% of the soil volume, and add fertilizer.
  • When planting wildflowers in pots
  • Plant them in pots with a mixture of Akadama and Kanuma-tsuchi soil in a 1:1 ratio.
  • When?
  • Basically, water your plants when the surface of the soil is dry. The timing of the soil drying out is also necessary for the roots of the plant to breathe.
  • How much is enough?
  • The amount of watering for potted plants is OK when the water comes out of the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot.
  • What about in the summer?
  • Watering during the summer season should be done twice a day, in the early morning and in the evening around sunset, avoiding daytime hours. Watering the leaves with leaf water is also very effective.
  • What kind?
  • Apply a granular fertilizer. Granular chemical fertilizer with a diameter of 2 to 3 mm.
  • How much is enough?
  • A bit of sprinkle is enough. Follow the directions on the fertilizer bag for more information.
  • When?
  • About once a month during the growing season. (Leaves do not need fertilizer during the dormant season.)
    ※Caution
There are periods of time when some types of plants do not need fertilizer.
  • What should we do when the flowers are done blooming?
  • Pick off the flower shells.
  • Why?
  • This is because when the flower is finished, the nutrients are concentrated in the seed, and the next flower will not get enough nutrients. This is because the purpose is to admire the flowers rather than to collect seeds.
  • When?
  • As each flower wilts, pick the flowers one by one as soon as possible.
  • In which part?
  • Traverse down the stem from the base of the wilted flower and pick it at the forked end of the stem. If there is a flower bud in the middle of the stem, pick it before the flower bud.
  • Potted plant
  • When decorating a room, do not place it in a bathroom with no windows at all. It will not be able to photosynthesize and will wither.
Basically, even if you display them in a room that receives sunlight, they tend to ack sunlight, so place them outside from time to time or near a window that receives direct sunlight.
※There are many different type of plants that prefer sunlight and others that prefer shad, so be sure to manage them appropriately for their type.
  • Watering
  • Basically, moss likes moisture, so when the surface of the moss is dry, water it with a mist sprayer or a jug.
  • What should we do?
  • When the leaves of a plant are insect-eaten, look around the plant carefully to observe if there are any pests, and is so, use insecticides to get rid of them.
  • What are Shukkonso?
  • Shukkonso belongs to the category of perennials, and Shukkanso is one whose above-ground parts all die off in winter.
  • What should we do?
  • When the above ground stems and leaves die back, cut them off the surface of the soil. In the spring, new shoots will sprout.
After cutting, you basically just leave it there until spring. The roots are still alive during the winter. If the temperature is too cols, they may freeze and die, so take measure to protect plants with cold-sensitive characteristics from the cold.
  • When?
  • When the above ground part of the plant has grown a size or two and the roots in the pot have become clogged, repot the plant in a pot that is a size larger than the current pot.
