Sorbus commixta (Japanese rowan, nanakamado)

A tall, deciduous tree of the family Rosaceae. Named nanakamado (meaning “seven times on the stove”) after its hardness, which allows the tree’s wood to remain unburned even after being put on the stove seven times.
Produces white flowers in early summer and bears spherical fruit about 5 mm in diameter that ripen and turn bright red in autumn.
