An evergreen dwarf shrub that bears red berries in winter.
Produces white flowers around July and bears white or yellowish berries from around December to early spring.
In Japan, the plant is also known as “hyakuryo” (meaning 100 ryo, ryo being the highest gold currency unit in pre-Meiji eras), as the plants used to be traded at 100 ryo in the late Edo period.
