Found across the northern hemisphere, this plant grows on mountains and in subalpine wetlands across Japan, from Hokkaido to Kyushu.

It produces flowers resembling those of the Japanese apricot tree, while bearing heart-shaped leaves at its base and on its upper stems. Each stem bears one leaf and one flower.

A white flower that brightens fall, and has a symbolic meaning of “sweetness” in the language of flowers.
